Creativity is the New Gold – Defining a new economic logic for Jozi

Join this panel discussion, hosted at the brand new Dibuke Cafe. The Creative20 is a movement. In November 2025, South Africa will be host to the G20 Summit, where thousands of global leaders across industries will descend to the tip of Africa to discuss global economy, politics, climate, business, diplomacy, cooperation, and many other issues.

This unique and powerful force will be hosting a panel discussion, bringing unique perspectives to the fore and allowing public participation.

As the Creative and Cultural Industries, we want to be prepared for this moment. And the Creative20 is a response to that. We often wake up after crucial conversations have been had, trying to figure out what happened, struck by a deep post Summit hangover with nothing to show for it. Not this time. This time we must be ready.

But Creative20 is more than just about the Summit. We exist for something much bigger. We exist to enable global creative economic prosperity, facilitating for better outcomes for creativity and creative practitioners.

Our first step is to rally creatives and supporters of the arts, around the “Creativity is our Superpower” pledge, which can be found on https://chng.it/K8pWhzDN9L . We are aiming for 10 000 pledges, to organise creatives behind a single moment, idea and project. The reason for the pledge - to have the Creative20 recognised as an official engagement group, like the B20, W20, SU20 and Y20. That recognition will enable us to elevate ourselves on the global agenda.

Solo Presentation by Megan Shapiro

Megan Shapiro (b. 1985, Johannesburg) is a contemporary South African artist represented by Candice Berman Gallery. Her deeply introspective practice bridges the conscious and unconscious, creating emotionally resonant works that invite viewers to explore their inner landscapes. Her mixed-media sculptural works—such as the ethereal Bubbles: Fragility and Fluidity—weave themes of spiritual awakening with collective experience. Recently, as artist-in-residence at The Creatory (223 Jan Smuts Creative Hub), she opened her studio to the public, blending creation and exhibition, and encouraging interactive engagement through her innovative 3D-pen sculptures.
